Dalian, also known as Bincheng, is a prefecture-level city in Liaoning Province, a sub-provincial city with separate plans, and an important central city, port and scenic tourist city along the coast of northern China approved by the State Council.

As of 2018, the whole city has 7 districts ,1 county and 2 county-level cities under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 12573.85 square kilometers, a built-up area of 488.6 square kilometers, a household registration population of 5.952 million, a household registration town population of 4.2854 million, and a urbanization rate of 72%.

Dalian is located at the southern tip of Liaodong Peninsula and at the junction of Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea. It is an important port, trade, industry and tourist city

It is located in the warm temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere and the east coast of Eurasia, and belongs to the semi-humid continental monsoon climate of the warm temperate zone.
